Message from the departing NJCART President
NJCART has changed over the past few years. It is a challenge to keep up with the ever changing technology and how the technology is delivered. In the past workshops were held around the state to help with awareness and training of assistive technology.
When the internet became a force, getting information out to consumers and professionals became much easier and much faster. Using technology became much better with simpler ways to adjust settings, incorporate adaptations into software programs and apps, and adapted devices becoming easier to use. The iPad and the Chromebook revolutionized the technology and assistive technology world. With the internet there is less and less of a need to provide trainings in person. Webinars are now a great way to learn. Vendors are providing wonderful webinars and how to videos. Webinars offer convenience and quick learning. However it is still beneficial, I feel, to gather and to learn and share information with others in the field of education and technology.
Edcamps and Spedcamps are excellent ways to share info and learn from each other in a person to person way. Assistive Technology conferences happening around the state also offer opportunities to have that personal touch of being with other professionals, consumers and educators. Don’t forget to always check your emails and the Website for NJCART’s upcoming “HOT TOPICS” webinars. This is a half hour webinar done in the evening with a variety of topics, each topic is approximately 5 to 7 minutes in length. If you would like to provide a Hot Topic to our segment please let us know. We welcome and NEED all professionals and consumers to share their experiences and expertise so we all can keep learning.
It has been a wonderful learning experience for me as part of the Board and also as President of NJCART. I have met many fascinating professionals and users of assistive technology. I am stepping down as President as my term has come to an end. I will continue as NJCART’s Immediate Past President. In this role I will continue to provide as much help as needed to the new incoming Board Members and to the many consumers and professionals of the NJCART community.
If anyone wants to get in touch with me, you can reach me at email: firstname.lastname@example.org
I now welcome as our new NJCART President, Wendy Thompson, Ed.D, a special education teacher with 25 years experience as a demonstration teacher for the A.Harry Moore School of New Jersey City University in Jersey City. You can find out more about Wendy and other Board members by selecting About on the website and going to NJCART Board of Directors.
Thank You and I look forward to continuing to be part of NJCART in my new role of Immediate Past President.
